What truck repairs actually cost
Every page here splits parts from labour hours and names the rate it multiplied by. A total is a number you can only accept or refuse. A split is a number you can take to a second shop.
Every repair we price
Full range across all scenarios on each page, cheapest first. Figures are provisional until our receipt dataset has a defensible sample — here is exactly how we build them.

By system
- AftertreatmentDPF, DOC, SCR, DEF dosing. The most expensive system on a modern truck to get wrong, and the one with the most bad advice written about it.
- EngineTurbochargers, EGR, cooling, and the in-frame work that decides whether a high-mile truck is worth keeping.
- Fuel systemInjectors, high-pressure pumps, and the fuel-quality problems that destroy both.
- DrivetrainClutch, transmission, driveshaft, and differential work on manual and automated boxes.
- Air brakes and air systemCompressors, dryers, valves, and foundation brake work — the system inspectors look at first.
By truck class
- Class 8 tractorSleeper and day cab tractors. Highest labour rates, highest parts cost, and the class where downtime is priced in lost revenue per day rather than inconvenience.
- Class 6–7 medium dutyBox trucks, straight trucks, bucket trucks, refuse, and mixers. Cummins B6.7 and L9, PACCAR MX-11, Isuzu, and Hino power most of it.
- Class 3–5F-350 through F-550, Ram 3500–5500, Silverado 3500HD–5500. Priced closer to a pickup than a tractor, serviced in both kinds of shop.
- Diesel pickup6.7 Power Stroke, L5P Duramax, 6.7 Cummins. The highest-volume diesel repair question there is, and the one where most of the search results are trying to sell you a delete.
- TrailerDry van, flatbed, tanker, and lowboy. Brakes, lighting, suspension, doors, and structure.
- Reefer unitThermo King and Carrier Transicold transport refrigeration. Separate engine, separate controller, separate labour scale.
Labour rate is the biggest variable on any of these pages
The same clutch job costs materially different money in Laredo and in Fontana, and almost nobody publishes heavy-truck shop rates by region. We are building that dataset by phone survey and submitted invoices. See where collection stands.
Had this repaired? Tell us what you paid.
Every range on this site is provisional until real invoices back it. If you have paid a shop in the last two years, the invoice you already have is the single most valuable thing you can give this project.
No account. No email required. We publish aggregates only, never your invoice.
